Membership Information

The following information is provided for you to understand the membership process here at Grace Fellowship Church.

Why Membership?

Becoming a member of a local church is an important step for each believer. The Bible teaches that we are already members "one with the other" because of our spiritual union with Jesus Christ. In this sense, we are already all part of that great body of individuals who have come to salvation through personal faith in God's Son. It is clear from the New Testament, however, that God's design is for each Christian to also be an accountable part of an organized, local group of believers who assemble under the pastoral oversight of elders. The loving, mutual service which results among the people of God is His means of presenting Christ to the watching world, and is also one essential way for us to show our love for God and one another. With loving one another comes a responsibility to care for each other. This care includes the "Golden Rule": Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Luke 6:31). Being a member of Grace Fellowship means you join it the mission God has given to the local church. This includes 2 primary tasks: 1. To become the people God wants us to be and 2) To be on mission with God through Teaching others and sharing the gospel (Matt. 29:19-20).

1. Becoming what God wants you to be

God has ordained that each Believer be part of other Believers (1 Cor. 12:13). We are the body of Christ and members in particular. We have been designed to be interdependent. We need the other parts of the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:21). We need one another for encouragement, accountability, support, and to provoke one another to love and good works (Heb. 10:24-25).

2. To be on mission with God through teaching others and sharing the gospel

Part of our function as a local church is to equip Believers for the work of ministry (Eph. 4:12). Every member is important to the task of teaching others what Christ has taught us (Matt. 29:19). The principle of growing includes both learning and teaching. As you grow in the Lord, you are to share the things you have learned with others. It is the task of the local church to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to their local communities and beyond.

These two components allow each Believer to experience the "Being" and the "Doing" parts of Christianity. The leadership of Grace Fellowship is responsible for teaching you, caring for you, providing spiritual protection and oversight so that you can grow into the person God wants you to be.
